Virgin Atlantic names Griffiths as new coo
Virgin Atlantic has appointed Steve Griffiths as its new chief operating officer, effective from March 16.
Currently the airline's director of engineering, Mr Griffiths's new role will encompass engineering, operations, airports, cabin crew, product and cargo.
Mr Griffiths first joined Virgin in 1995 in propulsion engineering before moving through managerial positions. He was promoted to director of engineering in July 2007.
Mr Griffiths obtained his degree while an apprentice at Rolls-Royce plc before moving up to senior engineer and then on to Virgin.
Mr Griffiths replaces Lyell Strambi, who returned to Australia at the end of last year to join Qantas as executive general manager of operations.
"I am honoured to have been selected for this role and look forward to contributing to Virgin Atlantic's success over the next 25 years," said Mr Griffiths.
"We have a great team, at all levels, and I am confident that we will emerge even stronger as a business from the current downturn."
