Lyell Strambi has left Virgin Atlantic where he was chef operating officer to join Qantas. Mr Strambi who worked as COO at Virgin for six years, will join the Australian carrier in the newly created role of executive general manager of operations with responsibility for "engineering, pilots, airports, catering and flight training."
He will re-locate to Sydney. He joins Qantas as its ceo Geoff Dixon prepares to step aside for Alan Joyce, currently ceo of Qantas subsidiary Jetstar, who takes over the role in November.
