Arpey takes over as oneworld chairman
Gerard Arpey, chairman and ceo of American Airlines, has taken over as the new chairman of the oneworld alliance.
He succeeds Geoff Dixon, the retiring ceo of Qantas, who held the post for two years.
Mr Arpey has been chairman of AA and its parent company AMR since 2004 and chief operating officer of both since 2002.
He joined the company in 1982 as a financial analyst and later served as its senior vp finance and planning and later as chief financial officer.
Oneworld has 10 full members plus 20 affiliates with Mexicana and its affiliate due to join in 2009.
The alliance celebrates its tenth anniversary next February.
