Marriott announces raft of executive moves
Marriott International has announced "significant" changes in its executive management.
From May 1, Arne Sorenson, executive vp, cfo and president, continental European lodging, will take over from William Shaw as Marriott's president and coo.
Mr Sorenson joined Marriott in 1996 and was named cfo in 1998. In 2003, he assumed responsibility for continental European lodging where he managed operations across more than 100 hotels, and led the launch of the Courtyard brand in the region.
Mr Shaw will become vice chairman and remain on the board of directors, while still reporting directly to ceo and board chairman J W Marriott, Jr.
Since joining the company, Mr Shaw has held key financial, development and operating positions before being appointed president and coo in 1997.
Carl Berquist, executive vp financial information and enterprise risk management, will become executive vp and cfo reporting to Mr Shaw. Mr Berquist will continue as Marriott's principal accounting officer.
After joining Marriott in 2002, Mr Berquist led an initiative to expand effectiveness and transparency in financial analysis and reporting across the company.
