ROUTES, the forum that brings together airlines and airports, came to Africa last week for the first time, the venue the Hyatt, Casablanca. Over 45 carriers participated, attracting 200-plus delegates. Called ”New Route Africa” the gathering was supported by a high-level speaker programme, with welcome addresses and opening speeches from Karim Ghellab, minister of transport, and George Muholo, managing director and CEO, Kenya Airport Authority. Routes Africa delegates also heard from Air Arabia”s CEO Adel Ali on his experience running a low fare airline, and Geoffrey Lipman, special advisor to the secretary general World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) on the wider spectrum. Routes annual development forum takes place in Dubai 17-19 September 2006.
