ROUTES, the annual forum where the airports and airlines get together on neutral ground, attracted well over 1,000 delegates representing 104 countries to Madrid last week. Its pivotal role was acknowledged by the United Nations-backed World Tourism Organisation signing an agreement to collaborate on air service development projects. Speaking at the OAG awards ceremony at the conference, Duncan Alexander, managing director business development of the Dunstable-based company noted that there were three start-up airlines present this year. OAG is currently assisting 134 airlines in the process of commencing their operations. Major airport of the year was Amsterdam Schiphol. The 2005 Routes will be in Copenhagen.
