AVIATION CLUB members were treated to a discourse by oneworld managing partner John McCulloch last Thursday on the whys and wherefores of alliances. He pointed out that consumers liked them with the competition now between the groupings rather than strictly the individual airlines. Speaking to nearly 200 members and their guests at London”s Institute of Directors Mr McCulloch, appointed in June of this year and the former VP commercial of oneworld, said that consolidation involves all aspects of the airline business, from airport lounges to aircraft purchase and engineering. oneworld last week celebrated five years. ”Alliances offer even the biggest airlines opportunities to generate greater value for their customers and shareholders than any individual carrier can achieve on its own,” he said.
