The Spanish government will begin enforcing a 14-day
quarantine period for overseas travellers starting 15 May, according to a
decree from the country’s health ministry.
Incoming travellers, including Spanish citizens and residents
returning from abroad, will have to provide a completed passenger location card
to authorities on their arrival with details of how they can be contacted
during the quarantine period. They will then be required to self-isolate at
home or in their accommodation.
Travellers will be allowed to go out for essential needs, such
as food, medicines, receiving medical help and other emergency situations, but
they will be required to wear a facemask when in public.
The quarantine will not apply to certain people, such as lorry
drivers, cross-border workers, cabin crew and healthcare workers.
The announcement may further harm European airlines' recovery in addition to the UK's upcoming quarantine plans, as Spain is a popular summer destination for many holidaymakers.
