Travellers to Cairo have been told to “stay inside” following a weekend of violence in the Egyptian capital.
The Foreign Office updated their travel advice after clashes between rival demonstrators broke out on the third anniversary of the 2011 revolution.
“Protests and disruption to travel around the country are likely in the days before and after January 25,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.
“You are strongly advised to stay inside during this period in Cairo. Across the country you are also advised to take particular care in the vicinity of government buildings and security facilities.”
The Foreign Office also urged travellers to avoid any demonstrations or marches, and to carry photographic identification at all times.
