Eurostar is considering launching a direct service to the south west French city Bordeaux.
The rail operator’s CEO Nicola Petrovic said the route could follow its new direct Amsterdam service which should launch early 2017.
A fast service to Bordeaux will become possible when a new £6.1 billion high-speed link from Tours, south-west of Paris, to the city is completed next year.
Chief executive Petrovic told The Times: “There is nothing decided at the moment beyond Amsterdam, but we are looking at opportunities maybe in Bordeaux because there is a new high-speed line opening in 2017.”
The announcement follows a “challenging year" for the cross channel operator after passenger numbers for 2015 remained flat and profits fell due to the Paris attacks in November and the strong Pound.
