Europcar has achieved gold accreditation for its environmental, social & governance (ESG) performance from rating agency EcoVadis for the first time, the car rental company has announced. This puts Europcar in the top five per cent of companies ranked by the agency, it said.
EcoVadis ranks companies on 21 environmental, social, ethical and sustainable procurement criteria.
“We are delighted to have received this very positive rating from EcoVadis. It is all the more valuable in our eyes because we are clearly committed, with our ‘Connect’ plan, to a transformation path which aims to make our group a major player in sustainable, digital and connected mobility,” said Valérie Sauteret, communication, brand and CSR director at Europcar Mobility Group.
“The acknowledgment of our environmental efforts therefore echoes our commitments and obviously pushes us to continue to progress.”
Among other measures, the group has committed to gradually increase the share of electric, hybrid and natural gas vehicles, with a target to reach more than a third of its total fleet in 2023. In October, Europcar announced it planned to be able to monitor its entire fleet in real time by the same date.
"The pandemic and related business impacts have shown that sustainability has redoubled in importance as a key performance criteria in building business relationships, particularly in hard hit sectors such as transportation and mobility," said David McClintock, EcoVadis' marketing director.
