United Airlines will build its service from the US to London Heathrow airport
to 22 daily flights by next spring, including new direct services to Boston,
the carrier announced.
Currently, United is flying to London – its most frequently
booked international destination for its business customers this month,
according to the carrier – on seven daily routes: two from each Newark Liberty
and Washington Dulles airports as well as one daily flight each from Chicago,
Houston and San Francisco. In December, United will bump that up to 10 daily
flights, adding additional service from Newark and Chicago.
Service from Boston will begin in March, and United will also
resume service from Denver and Los Angeles as it restores its pre-pandemic
network to London. Beyond that, United will be adding four new flights in
addition to the Boston service: a second daily flight from Denver, a third
daily flight from San Francisco and sixth and seventh daily flights from
Newark. The additional Newark service will allow United to offer hourly service
to London in the evening, according to the carrier.
"London is an integral part of United's network, and we
remain confident demand will continue to grow, particularly as international
business travel returns in 2022," United SVP of international network and
alliances Patrick Quayle said in a statement.
United earlier this month announced its largest
transatlantic expansion in the carrier's history.
