United Airlines has appointed an acting CEO to replace Oscar Munoz, who suffered a heart attack last week.
Brett Hart, previously United’s executive VP and general counsel, will take over the position with immediate effect.
Munoz had only been in the job for six weeks after replacing former CEO Jeff Smisek, who stepped down following a connection with a US federal investigation into the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Chairman, Henry Meyer: "Brett has taken on increasing responsibility beyond general counsel over the last few years in the operations and customer-facing areas of the company."
United said it didn’t know how long Munoz would be on medical leave, saying it was "too soon to know the course of treatment and timing of recovery".
