Italian rail operator Italo is expanding its intermodal network with new connections to Parma and seasonal rail-and-coach services to alpine destinations including Cortina d’Ampezzo, Aosta and Courmayeur.
The Parma service will connect the city, located between Milan and Bologna, with Turin, Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples and Salerno via high-speed rail and Itabus coach links.
Italo will operate 12 daily services, six in each direction, enabling travellers to combine coach connections with rail services at Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana station on a single ticket.
For the winter season, Italo has launched two daily intermodal services to Cortina d’Ampezzo. Travellers can book the train and connecting coach in a single transaction, travelling from Rome, Florence, Bologna, Vicenza, Verona, Brescia or Milan to Mestre station. A dedicated coach then serves Longarone, Tai di Cadore and San Vito di Cadore before reaching Cortina.
A similar service will link Aosta and Courmayeur with Naples, Rome, Florence, Bologna and Milan via Torino Porta Susa station. Two daily connections, one in each direction, will combine the rail and coach legs in a single booking.
“We continue to invest in intermodality because we believe it represents the future of transport," said Dora Bonadies, head of network and market development at Italo. "We offer integrated train and coach connections across Italy, serving tourist destinations, major business and industrial areas, and places of interest.”
