Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) is decreasing the number of scheduled flights on certain routes as political unrest causes a drop in demand for flights, the airline has confirmed.
UIA said it will reduce the amount of services from 343 to 305 flights per week, until March 29.
A spokesperson for UIA said as soon as the demand for flights is “back to normal”, it will increase frequency quickly and regenerate the previously scheduled traffic performance.
UIA also confirmed it’s taking meals out of its economy air fares in a bid to reduce ticket prices.
The airline is launching a ‘Buy on Board’ service, which will be rolled out from the start of next month on international flights of up to two hours.
Business class passengers will still get a meal included in the ticket price, with a pre-ordered meal service due to launch in June.
“UIA decided to introduce the new buy on board concept for economy class passengers and to revise the cost structure by excluding the onboard meals’ cost from the ticket fare in order to improve the price/quality balance,” said Anton Borysyuk, UIA’s VP for service and logistics.
“The concept developed with due regard to other airlines’ successful experience will allow UIA to both offer passengers a wide range of high-quality meals and provide them with an opportunity to choose and pay for the onboard service level that suits them best.”
