Southend has again been named as the UK’s best airport by passengers in a survey for consumer magazine Which?
Readers voted Southend as the top airport for customer service for the third consecutive year with an overall score of 86 per cent.
Airports are judged on seven categories including check-in, baggage drop, security, baggage reclaim, seating, food outlets and passport control.
Southend, which is a base for Easyjet, scored top marks in four of these categories: queues at baggage drop and security, passport control and baggage reclaim.
Glyn Jones, CEO of Southend’s owner Stobart Aviation said: “To be named ‘Best Airport in Britain’ for the third year running is wonderful news and once again testament to all the hard work that the team here at Southend has put in.”
At the other end of the scale, Stansted and Luton were judged as being the worst airports in the UK – both recorded a score of 40% after receiving poor marks for long queues, overcrowding and a lack of seating.
Easyjet announced last week that it would be starting a service between Southend and Paris Charles de Gaulle from February 26. The year-round route will operate four times per week.
