SAS Scandinavian Airlines is in talks with Boeing and Airbus for a “large” order of widebody jets, including Boeing 787 and 777X, as well as Airbus A350 and A330neo models, Bloomberg reports.
The carrier did not disclose how many aircraft it plans to purchase as part of its ongoing fleet renewal and growth strategy, but CEO Anko van der Werff told Bloomberg the order is large enough to make engine and aircraft manufacturers “very interested”.
The airline recently announced a new daily long-haul route from Copenhagen to Dubai starting in October, its first service to Dubai in 15 years.
SAS currently operates an all-Airbus widebody fleet, consisting of A350s and older A330 jets. Last June it placed an order for 45 Embraer aircraft and has been steadily expanding its international network since exiting Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US and joining the Skyteam alliance in 2024.
The carrier may soon become a subsidiary of Air France-KLM as the Franco-Dutch group looks to acquire a 60.6 per cent stake in SAS.
