Low-cost carrier Norwegian has announced it will resume
flights from Gatwick and Edinburgh on 1 July, with further European routes to
restart throughout the month.
The resumption will start with flights from Gatwick to Oslo seven
times per week and Copenhagen six times per week, along with Edinburgh to Oslo
and Copenhagen twice a week each. By the end of July, Norwegian plans to
operate 76 routes across Europe – including destinations in Spain, Greece and
other key cities – from its Scandinavian hubs.
Since April, Norwegian has only operated 13 domestic
services in Norway using eight aircraft after it grounded its long-haul fleet, but a further 12 planes will be brough
back into service to support the restart.
Like other airlines, Norwegian has introduced a number of
new health and safety measures during the coronavirus pandemic, including
mandatory facemasks or coverings for all passengers and crew, physical
distancing where possible and regular disinfecting of the aircraft cabin.
Passengers can only bring hand luggage that can fit under the seat in front of
them to avoid queuing during the boarding and disembarking process, with larger
bags to be checked in. There will be no onboard catering to minimise contact
between passengers and crew.
