Lufthansa is retrofitting 38 of its Airbus A320 aircraft, with the project scheduled to be completed by 2029, the carrier announced on Thursday (19 February).
The updated cabins already are available on long-haul routes, but this retrofit will affect aircraft used for short- and medium-haul flights.
The updated cabins will have new seats, 40 per cent larger overhead bins, USB-A and -C ports at each seat, new headrests, holders for tablets and smartphones, and in business class, "a backrest that reclines especially far”.
Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter said: “We want to offer our guests a premium experience on short- and medium-haul routes as well. The A320 family is our largest fleet – that's why we're investing in the modernisation of more than 30 aircraft… Our guests can look forward to more comfort and significantly more space for their carry-on baggage."
