Lufthansa has decided to extend its fees for advanced seat reservations to its long-haul flights from April 28, although the charge will not apply to all booking classes.
The German carrier will levy a €25 fee per flight on economy passengers who wish to reserve a specific seat at the time of booking.
Lufthansa introduced a fee for seat selection on its short-haul services in November 2013. The airline charges €10 on short-haul flights although this goes up to €20 for those wanting to sit in an emergency exit row.
Those wanting to reserve an emergency exit seat on long-haul flights will have to pay €60 per flight.
“This change brings the additional advance seat reservation service fees in line with those incurred on domestic and European routes,” said Lufthansa in a statement. “As in the past, all guests may choose their preferred seat at no extra charge when checking in up to 23 hours before departure.”
The long-haul seat reservation fee will apply to booking classes W, S, T, L and K.
“For the remaining booking classes, economy class advanced seat reservation remains free of charge. This service in the upcoming premium economy class, business and first class also remains free of charge,” added Lufthansa.
"For HON Circle members and Senators, advanced seat reservation is free of charge in all booking classes.”
