Lufthansa Group’s airlines have said they will continue operating
some flights to the US past 14 March despite President Donald Trump’s
restrictions on non-citizens entering the country from 26 European countries in
an attempt to stop the spread of Covid-19.
The group said it will continue operating services from
Frankfurt to Chicago and Newark, from Zurich to Chicago and Newark, from Vienna
to Chicago, and from Brussels to Washington.
All other US routes will be suspended until further notice,
including departures from Munich, Dusseldorf and Geneva.
It added that all of its airlines – Lufthansa, Swiss and
Austrian – are working on an alternative flight schedule for the US, but it has
reassured passengers that they will still be able to reach its hub airports in
the country for connecting flights with partner airline United.
United Airlines itself said it will maintain its regular European schedule through 19 March, after which it expects to continue serving Zurich, Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, Manchester and Edinburgh on a daily basis, as well as flights to Frankfurt and Munich, London, Dublin and Lisbon.
Lufthansa Group has advised all passengers to check the
status of their flight over the coming weeks regardless of their destination as
the Covid-19 situation continues to develop.
In addition, the group is reviewing its schedule to India in
light of the government suspending all visas until 15 April.
