Air travel around Italy is being disrupted due to a 24-hour strike in the country by ground handling unions.
The action, over pay and working conditions, will take place from 0000am local time on Friday May 30. It will happen alongside an SEA, airport and ground handling staff strike at Milan airports from 1300 to 1700 local time.
Easyjet has said flights to and from Milan Malpensa, Venice and Milan Linate airports will be affected, stating that the disruption to travellers is “beyond the airline’s control”.
“We are doing everything possible to minimise the impact to our customers and we have proactively taken the decision to cancel some flights to allow customers to re-organise their travel plans ahead of the Bank Holiday,” the airline said in a statement.
Easyjet said any travellers affected by the strike will be informed by SMS and email and will be offered a full refund or transfer to a new flight.
The airline has advised travellers who want to travel and want to rebook to avoid booking on the same day, as “there is a likelihood of further disruption that could cause further cancellations”.
British Airways said it would be reviewing its schedule this morning and will let customers know of any changes to the schedule 'as soon as possible'.
Last week (May 15) air travel around France was disrupted due to a strike by public sector workers across the country.
