Norwegian airline Flynonstop, which operated from London City Airport, has filed for bankruptcy just seven months after starting business.
Flynonstop had operated five times a week from the airport to Kristiansand, where it was based, since April. It had only a single Embraer 190 aircraft, which it also flew from Norway to a handful of other destinations, including Berlin and Paris. The choice of London City Airport was a bold one, as Kristiansand is mainly a leisure destination.
On its website the airline confirmed it had petitioned for bankruptcy and that all flights have been cancelled. It advised customers to contact credit card companies to get refunds. As a scheduled airline, the carrier does not fall under the UK government’s Atol consumer protection scheme.
Flynonstop added that customers were being contacted via email and text with advice on rebooking. SAS is offering reduced rates for those who need to travel.
“The possibility that the majority of our customers will find a suitable ticket alternative to the original itinerary will be very good,” the carrier said.
