UK carrier Flybe has launched six European routes from London Southend airport, the airline has confirmed.
The services will be operated by Stobart Air under a 10-year deal announced last week.
The airline will fly to Rennes and Caen Normandie in France, Munster Osnabruck and Cologne Bonn in Germany, Antwerp in Belgium and Groningen in the Netherlands.
Flights to Rennes, Groningen and Munster Osnabruck will commence on June 5, with services to the other three destinations starting on July 3.
The carrier also confirmed it will increase capacity on its London Southend services from September, resulting in 102 weekly flights on its six routes. This will include double daily return flights on services to Antwerp and Rennes.
Services will be operated by Stobart AirStobart Air’s COO Simon Fagan said the six routes will “resonate” with both business and leisure passengers.
“From London Southend’s perspective, we will expect to deliver an extra 200,000 passengers in year one, rising to 700,000 passengers within three years,” said Fagan.
“The airport’s connectivity to the centre of London, plus the positive customer experience make it attractive for both passengers and airlines.”
London Southend airport managing director, Roger Clements, said “This is fantastic news and perfect timing as we celebrate the completion of our terminal extension.
“We are convinced it is our unique, high standard of customer service that is responsible for London Southend becoming so popular over the past 12 months.”
