Finnair is to launch routes from three Nordic capitals to Doha as part of a strategic “long-term” partnership with Qatar Airways.
The deal between the two oneworld alliance members will see Finnair operate daily flights from Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen to Doha, which are planned to start between November and December 2022.
Finnair and Qatar Airways will also introduce a wide-ranging codeshare agreement, which will give Finnair passengers access to Qatar Airways’ network of around 100 destinations from its Doha hub. Meanwhile Qatar Airways’ customers can take advantage of Finnair’s network around Europe.
The flights to Doha will be operated using Finnair’s Airbus A330 aircraft featuring new long-haul cabins and premium economy class, as well as a “refreshed” economy cabin.
Finnair’s CEO Topi Manner said: “The role of Doha as an international hub is growing and Qatar Airways has extensive connections from Doha onwards to, for example, Australasia, the Middle East and Africa.”
Qatar Airways’ group CEO Akbar Al Baker added: “This strategic partnership demonstrates our commitment to the Nordic markets and strengthens our position as the leading Middle East carrier in this important region. This partnership will be the foundation for future expansion here.”
The announcement comes as Qatar prepares to host the World Cup 2022 football tournament from November 20 to December 18.
