An explosion onboard a Pegasus Airlines' aircraft at an Istanbul airport has killed one cleaner and caused damage to surrounding aircraft and buildings.
The explosion, which took place on Wednesday morning, happened at Sabiha Gokcen airport, which is Istanbul's second airport. A second cleaner was also injured in the blast.
Pegasus Airlines has released the following statement: “On 23 December 2015 at 02.05am, there was an explosion at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport and the cause is yet unknown.
"As a result of the explosion, two of cleaning staff members who were onboard a Pegasus plane nearby were injured and taken to hospital.
"We would like to express our great sadness to have received the news that our colleague Zehra Yamac has lost her life in the incident.
"We extend our thoughts and deepest sympathy to her family and friendsduring this difficult time. Our second colleague Canan Burgulu is at the hospital receiving treatment for her injuries."
Pegasus is a low-cost airline with a fleet of 66 aircraft and flies to 103 destinations including 70 international routes in 40 countries.
