Delta Airlines is to offer a new year-round daily service from New York JFK airport to Zurich.
The airline has also confirmed it will expand flights from its US hub to Rome, as well as entering into joint ventures with Air France-KLM and Alitalia this winter to offer services to Paris and Amsterdam.
Delta said the moves will help it capitalise on “important business markets in Europe”.
The Zurich flight will be operated by a Boeing 767-300, with the daily service starting on June 16 and during the summer will complement the airline’s existing service from Atlanta.
The daily service to Rome will operate from April to October with an A330-300 aircraft, and then five times per week in November, December and March on a Boeing 767-300. This service will be in conjunction with Delta’s joint venture partner Alitalia.
Gail Grimmett, Delta’s senior vice president, said: “Demand continues to increase for more nonstop flights from New York to European destinations. Zurich ranks fourth in terms of business traffic from New York, and our additional service will build on the commercial, tourism and community links between these two cities.”
