Delta is cancelling around 250 flights today (August 9) as it works to reset operations following a systems failure which grounded all departing flights on Monday.
The US carrier said it’s working to get crews, aircraft and other operational elements in place before resuming services.
It expects additional delays and cancellations throughout the day and has advised passengers to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
Yesterday, Delta suspended all departing services due to a nationwide system outage. The suspension was temporarily lifted allowing for a limited service.
Passengers are also being provided with hotel rooms and other accommodation if a cancellation requires an overnight stay.
"We were able to bring our systems back on line and resume flights within a few hours yesterday but we are still operating in recovery mode,” said Dave Holtz, SVP, operations and customer centre.
“We are sorry for what many of our customers have experienced over the past 24 hours, including those who remain at airports and continue waiting for their flights. We are doing everything we can to return our operation to normal reliability, but we do expect additional delays and cancellations,” Holtz added.
The airline said it cancelled around 1,000 flights on Monday.
