British Airways is to increase capacity on routes from Heathrow to Chengdu, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Tokyo for summer 2014.
BA will increase flights to the Chinese city of Chengdu - a route which was launched in September - from three to five per week from May 5, 2014. The airline intends to use a Dreamliner B787 instead of a B777 on the service from the same date.
The carrier also plans to increase flights to Mexico City from five to six weekly from April 27, Sao Paulo from seven to 10 per week from June 1, and Tokyo Haneda from five to six per week from March 30 before going daily from May 4.
BA’s latest route changes come on top of previously announced new routes such as Heathrow to Austin as well as extra flights to Cape Town, Entebbe, New York JFK, Seattle and Seoul.
The airline is also planning to begin using an Airbus A380 to Washington DC from September 1 next year as well as flying B787s to Hyderabad (March 30), Philadelphia (June 5) and Calgary (July 5).
Richard Tams, BA’s head of sales, said: “Thanks to the arrival of the new aircraft - the centrepiece of our £5 billion investment in improvements for our customers - we're delivering on our promise to introduce new destinations and an even better schedule.
“We're receiving great customer feedback on our new aircraft so we're delighted to be able to roll them out across more of our network and hope our customers enjoy them on these important Indian, Chinese and American routes.
“More destinations will follow as we will receive 12 A380s and 24 787s over the next three years.
“We’re also pleased to be able to increase services to the likes of Chengdu, Haneda, Mexico City and Cape Town where there is significant demand and we know regular direct flights are important to our customers.”
