British Airways is increasing the number of additional price
points available via NDC on fares on its short haul routes in Euro Traveller (economy)
and Club Europe (business) from 57 to 73.
The airline introduced additional price points as part of its
NDC offering to allow smaller increments in fares within booking classes. With
the traditional scheme based on the alphabet, only 26 buckets were
available and when a booking class was closed there was potentially a
relatively large jump up to the next fare.
The new price points are available on flights both operated
and marketed by British Airways mainline and booked through BA’s NDC APIs.
The airline said, “This will not only provide greater
consistency and optimisation for the upsell amount between our Euro Traveller
and Club Europe cabins, but will also offer our customers a wider range of
prices to better suit their budget.”
British Airways surpassed IATA’s Leaderboard
target of 20 per cent NDC bookings in December 2020 and said that almost one in two
bookings in the UK were made via NDC, including those via its website.
In October, Lufthansa launched a similar NDC-powered continuous pricing offering.
