Albanian airline Belle Air has stopped all flights after the company’s bank accounts were frozen for more than two weeks.
The airline also blamed the “general economic situation, the decline of the purchasing power and recession in the markets it operates” for the suspension of services.
Belle Air, which was set up in 2005, operated from Albania’s capital Tirana to 26 destinations in Europe including Stansted, where it ran daily flights.
The airline said in a statement: “Belle Air will start a process of restructuring aiming to return with lower prices and quality service in the Albanian market.
“Following this restructuring process, Belle Air invites Albanian and foreign investors to be part of the revival of this success story of an Albanian-born business.”
Belle Air’s suspension of flights leaves British Airways as the only carrier offering direct services between London and Tirana, with a three times-weekly service from Gatwick.
