Asiana Airlines has named Kim Soo Cheon as its chief executive officer (CEO).
He replaces Yoon Woung Doo who was at the helm when one of the airline’s planes crashed while landing in San Francisco in July.
Until now Soo Cheon has been CEO of Air Busan, a budget carrier 46% owned by Asiana.
He takes over officially on January 1.
Local reports claim the appointed is part of a shake up at executive level, rather than to hold the Yoon accountable for the summer accident in which three people died.
The outgoing CEO is to remain with the company as an adviser, according to a statement made by the airline.
An investigation into the cause of the crash has yet to be concluded.
