Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has started construction on a 160-room property in Côte d’Ivoire's economic capital Abidjan, marking its first venture into the African country.
The first stone was laid on October 7, with an opening date of 2020 announced at the ground-breaking ceremony. Mövenpick says the new hotel is part of a wider Sub-Saharan development plan, with other properties planned in Kenya (opening 2018), Ethiopia (opening 2019) and Nigeria (opening 2020). The company already operates the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra in Ghana.
The Abidjan property will be located in the city’s Le Plateau business district, which is home to government buildings and local attractions. When it opens in 2020, the hotel will feature an all-day restaurant, a lounge/bar, an executive club lounge, a fitness centre and meeting space.
