IHG Hotels & Resorts will add three new Holiday Inn Express hotels in Spain within the next three years after agreeing a partnership with global alternative asset manager Tikehau Capital.
These include the 244-room Holiday Inn Express Madrid – Julián Camarillo, which is expected to open in the city’s MadBit neighbourhood in Q1 2028. The property will be the largest Holiday Inn Express in the Iberian Peninsula, featuring an outdoor pool and fitness area.
Meanwhile, the 150-room Holiday Inn Express Barcelona – Fira will open in Q1 2029 next to the city’s convention centre, Fira de Barcelona.
Also expected to open in early 2029, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Málaga – Palacio de Congresos will house 259 rooms and 52 suites adjacent to the FYCMA Trade Fair and Congress Centre.
The three new-build hotels, comprising 653 rooms in total, are among the first properties in Tikehau’s Selecto platform, which aims to develop “select-service” hotels across Iberia.
As part of the platform, IHG said it is looking to build a diverse portfolio of Holiday Inn Express hotels across Iberia in the coming years.
Willemijn Geels, vice president, development, Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Spain is an important growth market in Europe, and these three signings represent a major step forward in our strategy to expand Holiday Inn Express and grow our Essentials brands in the country.”
In a separate update, IHG also announced its Crowne Plaza brand will return to Vienna later this year after more than a decade-long absence, following a partnership with FEURING Asset Management.
Expected to open towards the end of Q3 2026 in the city’s Margareten district, the Crowne Plaza Vienna will feature 195 guest rooms, including 22 suites, meeting space for up to 140 delegates, an Austrian-inspired restaurant and rooftop wellness facilities. According to IHG, the hotel is certified under the EU Ecolabel and Austrian Environment Label schemes.
