IHG has launched its extended stay Candlewood Suites brand in Europe with the unveiling of a property in the German capital Berlin.
Midscale aparthotel brand Candlewood has opened its first European outpost in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district. It is part of a dual-brand project which shares a building with the Holiday Inn – the Niu Flash.
The move is part of a deal struck last year between IHG and franchise partner NOVUM Hospitality to expand the hotel giant’s presence in the German market.
IHG said it plans to open a further five Candlewood Suites properties in Germany in the coming months. They will be located in Fürth, Heidelberg, Düsseldorf, Augsburg and a second Berlin aparthotel close to Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The company intends to open a total of 13 Candlewood properties in Germany
Mario Maxeiner, managing director for Northern Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: "We are looking forward to introducing the Candlewood Suites brand to Europe with the opening of Candlewood Suites Berlin Charlottenburg in Germany, one of our key European growth markets.
“We are especially proud of the swift collaboration between IHG and our partners at NOVUM Hospitality, who have successfully signed, converted, and begun to open Candlewood Suites hotels across the country.”
The first Candlewood Suites property in Berlin features 139 apartments fitted with a kitchenette, including fridge, stove and dishwasher. There is also a self-service laundry room. Guests check in at the neighbouring Holiday Inn and also have access to the hotel’s breakfast buffet and bar.
David Etmenan, CEO and owner of NOVUM Hospitality, added: “We are proud to bring Candlewood Suites to Germany; a brand that embodies comfort, convenience and a home-like experience for our guests.
“This launch marks a significant step in our commitment to providing exceptional hospitality and tailored services that meet the evolving needs of travellers."
