AIRBUS has reacted to a report in the Wall Street Journal concerning possible wake turbulence from the new A380. Speaking in Dubai at the air show, new chief executive Gustav Humbert agreed that there might be problems and suggested that separation times could be increased from the norm, "as a precautionary measure" during the early stages of the aircraft”s introduction. With Heathrow likely to be the world”s number one A380 airport, initially at least, any requirement for increased distance between planes could have serious consequences at busy times in an airport with only two runways working much to capacity. The Wall Street Journal report takes its information from a preliminary survey by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), the world authority governing international aircraft operations.
