Emissions trading "best way" for aviation
Aircraft emissions are a serious problem and the best way to deal with them is to include aviation in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, EC environment ministers decided at their meeting last week.
They called on the EC to propose legislation by the end of next year and to analyse the social, environmental and economic impact the emissions.
The ministers said a trading model which could be used worldwide was the aim.
They also said the preferred option was for the scheme to cover all flights starting in the EU area rather than just flights within the area.
