German national carrier Lufthansa reported a 98m loss for the first quarter of 2006.
The group described the result, compared with a 116m loss for the same period in 2005, as "sturdy."
The airline also reported an operating loss for the three months of 75m, compared with a 26m loss in the first quarter of 2005.
The results take into account the integration of SWISS with Lufthansa and the inclusion of the Eurowings group for the first time.
In the three months, the group saw its revenues increase by 13.9% to 4.4bn and traffic revenue rise by 12.9% to 3.9bn.
During the quarter, the group spent 751m on aircraft fuel, an increase on the year of 293m (64%).
Without successful hedging, the airline said its fuel bill would have been 29m higher.
Mr Wolfgang Mayrhuber, chairman and ceo of Lufthansa, said the results were "in line with our expectations."
He added: "The first quarter is normally week in the airline business. Lufthansa is staying on course despite a headwind."
Mr Mayrhuber said he was confident about 2006 and expected an operating result as least as good as that of 2005 when the airline made a profit of 577m.
Williamson quits BCD
Mervyn Williamson has quit as managing director of BCD Travel in the UK.
He will leave the company along with another senior executive and ex-Phoenix colleague, Jon Langley, currently a non-executive director, in June.
Mr Williamson was chief financial officer for Phoenix Travel when it was taken over by TQ3
Travel Solutions Management Holding three years ago and has overseen the integration of the two companies.
TQ3 Travel Solutions Management Holding was itself taken this year by Amsterdam-based BCD Holdings along with The Travel Company, a major UK independent.
The new grouping, including BCD's WorldTravel BTI, was renamed BCD Travel.
Mike Walley, formerly managing director of The Travel Company, as president and chief operating officer for BCD Travel in the UK is now in sole charge of the British operation.
