IATA, the International Air Transport Association has boosted its presence in Washington to enable improved lobbying for the aviation industry in the US capital. IATA said Douglas Lavin will join it as regional vice-president for North America from May 1 2005. Lavin comes to the association from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) where he is the Assistant Administrator for International Aviation. He will head IATA's presence in Washington and take overall responsibility for following the legislative and regulatory process on issues ranging from safety, security, facilitation and environment to consumer protection, economic regulation, charges and taxes.
