Hogg Robinson, owner of BTI, is likely to buy up more agencies in the US, ceo David Radcliffe said this week.
He said in the longer term, it would also "be making either an acquisition or taking a partner" in the Netherlands to cover the "hole" that will be left by the decision of Hogg and its Dutch-owned partner BCD Holdings to go their separate ways.
The breakdown of merger talks between Hogg and BCD which owns the American agency WorldTravel BTI led to a major shake up of the business travel industry.
While Hogg will go its own way and trade under the brand BTI, BCD has bought TQ3 Travel Solutions Management Holding and a stake in the UK independent The Travel Company.
These three will form a new global company with a new name to be announced later this year.
The TQ3 name will be used by US agency Navigant International which previously had a 50-50 partnership with TQ3.
Mr Radcliffe said the talks between Hogg and BCD broke down for a "whole load of reasons."
Although he declined to go into detail, he added: "At the end of the day we had got different strategic objectives."
He said Hogg/BTI's was that of a "corporate services provider within the corporate travel market" providing a whole range of services.
He said Hogg had also over the years made sure "we have invested in all the markets where you know corporate clients start to consolidate their business and then have a strong network of strategic partners where it is not what we call the start of consolidation."
He named the UK, the US, Singapore and Hong Kong as strong centres and France and Germany which are becoming strong centres.
He said Hogg owned 100% (or in China's cases 51%) of its business in these areas. Outside the US and The Netherlands, Mr Radcliffe said Hogg was covered.
He said Hogg was also likely to expand its specialism in sport as "we have a system and processes which lend themselves to moving large bodies of people."
Its US purchase last year, Sea Gate Travel has a strong sports client base including chartering aircraft for the National Basketball Association while BTI Germany is part of a company handling travel arrangement for the World Cup in Germany this year.
Mr Radcliffe said the BTI name would also "be around for some time." He said as far as clients were concerned it was "business as usual."
