ARGENTINA is growing and growing in terms of British tourists and in January 2006, the hottest month of the year, the number rose by 30.2% compared with 2004, making the UK the best performing country in Europe and the second in the world (after Brazil) in terms of tourists. All this without any non-stop flights, BA operating just four times a week via Sao Paulo, most arriving via other European hubs.
In 2005 the growth of UK arrivals through Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires increased by 17.3% in comparison with 2004.
The data also shows that UK tourists stay an average of 15.4 days in Argentina (higher than the 12.2 days international average), and that 66.9% of the British travellers stay in 4 or 5-star hotels.
The English Tower, seen left, continues to dominate the Plaza Retiro opposite the main railway station. Attempts to rename it seem to have floundered!
