PARIS visitors should plan to keep away around 10 March when a general strike has been called by a number of trade unions including the General Labour Confederation, the Workers” Force and the French Democratic Labour Confederation, the country”s largest union. With only the logic that the French can produce this is also the period when the IOC”s evaluation commission will be in the city. The Union unrest is essentially due to concerns that the now traditional French 35 hour working week might have to be made more flexible under European legislation. From past experience the airlines would be effected if it goes ahead but not necessarily Eurostar.
