Nadine Dewart has stepped down from her position as president-elect of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE).
Ms Dewart, global travel buyer for Dupont based in Belgium, was due to become the first European president of the Association in January.
ACTE is now seeking a new candidate to fill the role.
Ms Dewart has also resigned from the main ACTE board and vacated the chair of the Association's EMEA region.
A statement issued by ACTE said Ms Dewart cited "increased job commitments" which precluded her "devoting the time and energy to fulfil properly the role of ACTE president-elect and president."
Ms Dewart became president-elect at the beginning of 2005. This coincided with her joining Dupont from BMC Software in early 2005. She was due to begin her two year stint as ACTE's president next January.
Ms Dewart who has been active in ACTE since becoming a travel manager eight years ago said: "I believe in ACTE 100% and will continue to be an active supporter of the Association.
"However, given recent increases in my job responsibilities I do not feel that I can give the necessary time and attention that ACTE deserves in its leadership."
Current president Greeley Koch said: "Nadine has played a key role in ACTE's development and growth in the EMEA region. We are truly grateful for her commitment and leadership."
ACTE said its Nominations Committee will start the search for a candidate to fill the President-elect position "as soon as possible."
