SEATS on aircraft continue to improve the whole time but other than
actually knowing that one carrier offers something different from
another the average passenger is totally unaware of the design and
planning that goes behind each product. Contour Premium Aircraft
Seating supplied British Airways with their highly acclaimed first
class offering nearly ten years ago (and BOAC with a ”slumbrette” seat
in 1948). Having just won the business for Lufthansa”s A380 first
class programme it has now unveiled what it calls the ”Solar” premium
business class seat. The revolutionary lie-flat seat ” selected by
Air Canada for its ”Extreme Make-over” cabin retrofit programme and
due for delivery at the end of this month ” is a luxurious individual
suite providing maximum living space with a 6ft 3-inch long bed and up
to 31-inches at shoulder width. The seats, configured in a
herringbone layout, provide aisle access for all passengers and
43-inch high privacy screens separate each individual suite. Other
seat features include oversized tray tables for dining and working;
lumbar support and massage feature; a fully integrated IFE system
giving personal video and audio entertainment; in-seat power for
portable electronic devices and multiple storage areas.
