Technology firm Travelport has opened a new office in the Iraqi city of Erbil as it looks to continue expanding in the Middle East.
The GDS owner already has an office in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, where it is represented by Iraqi IT firm Rawat Al Hajer, which will also run the Erbil operation.
Erbil is Iraq’s fourth largest city and is capital of the country’s Kurdistan region.
Rabih Saab, Travelport’s managing director of Middle East and Africa, said: “The opening of the new office in Erbil reinforces Travelport’s commitment to Iraq.
“This new commercial operation further solidifies our presence in the region and brings a superior level of support to our travel agents in Erbil and in the neighbouring regions.”
Travelport moved into Iraq in January 2011 when it launched Galileo Iraq based in Baghdad.
