Ride-hailing firm Taxify has confirmed that it has launched services in London for the first time.
The Estonia-based taxi app said it planned to begin offering rides in the UK capital on Tuesday (September 5) where it will be competing with the likes of Uber, Gett and Mytaxi (formerly Hailo).
Taxify, which was founded in 2013, operates in around 25 cities in 19 countries – mostly in central and eastern Europe. Other cities include Paris, Cairo, Mexico City, Nairobi in Kenya, the Iraqi capital Baghdad and Baku in Azerbaijan
The company said it would only charge drivers 15 per cent commission, which was lower than Uber’s rate of 20 to 25 per cent.
As a launch promotion, Taxify is offering a 50 per cent discount on fares until the end of September.
Unlike some of its competitors, Taxify says its customers can pay by cash as well as through the app, and can also text drivers for free about pick-ups.
