Ryanair is to launch a new “low price” accommodation provider as it bids to become the “Amazon of air travel”.
The low-cost airline wants to launch Ryanair Rooms from October 1 featuring hotels, hostels, bed and breakfasts, villas and homestay.
Ryanair is now inviting accommodation providers to submit proposals to become partners in the programme, which will be accessed through the Ryanair.com website.
The airline already offers Ryanair Car Hire, which was launched with online car rental platform CarTrawler in August 2015.
Ryanair's chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs promised that the airline would “transform booking accommodation”.
“More customers are looking to Ryanair for products other than flights, and we see this as a natural progression towards Ryanair.com becoming the Amazon of air travel,” added Jacobs.
“It also echoes the change in demand from customers for different types of accommodation, which in turn will be reflected by the varied range Ryanair Room will offer: from five-star hotel rooms to independent homestay.
“We look forward to receiving proposals from interested partners who want to help us disrupt the travel industry once more.”
