Etihad is offering First and Business Class passengers free wifi and iPads on all its US-bound flights from Abu Dhabi.
The decision follows the announcement that US-bound passengers from eight mainly Muslim countries – Qatar, UAE, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Saudia Arabia, Morocco and Kuwait - will be banned from carrying devices larger than a mobile phone in hand luggage.
Devices larger than 16cm in length, 9.3cm width and 1.5cm in depth now need to be checked in following a directive from the Department of Homeland Security, effective until October 14, 2017.
To limit the inconvenience for its premium passengers Etihad will provide wifi vouchers for the entire flight as well as iPads. Power and USB sockets at every seat will keep devices charged throughout the journey.
It follows an announcement by Emirates introducing a laptop and tablet handling service as it looks to minimise the impact of the electronic device ban.
