Egencia is offering business travellers the ability to book extra airline baggage when they make a flight booking through the TMC.
The company is using Amadeus Web Services to offer ancillary airline products to its clients’ travellers for the first time. The system allows add-ons to be booked for more than 10 airlines including Air France.
Igor Marchal, director of supply development at Egencia, said: “We work hard at putting everything business travellers need in one place to help make their experience better.
“Letting travellers and our travel agents book extra baggage along with the rest of the trip does just that. This is good for our travellers, it’s good for our agents, and it’s good for our airline partners
Egencia’s move comes a year after parent company Expedia began offering Amadeus Airline Fare Families to its leisure customers. Fare Families allows agents to “identify and recommend the best fare to each customer”.
Pedro Espin, associate director for merchandising and personalisation at Amadeus, added: “In 2015, we saw online travel agencies and airlines embrace merchandising in a big way, and we think travel management companies will join in on the action in 2016.
“Seats and bags are just the beginning. New ways to book a flight, including rich content, are just around the corner.”
