Delta Air Lines has introduced automatic check-in to its Fly Delta app, allowing some customers to access boarding passes without having to wait in a queue.
The new functionality is available on the latest version of the app and automatically checks in eligible customers 24 hours prior to their scheduled departure. Auto check-in is currently available to passengers on domestic-only flights who have already chosen a seat or are automatically assigned a seat on check-in.
Customers receive an alert via email or push notification that they are being checked in. When they open the app, they must acknowledge federally mandated restricted items, and their boarding pass is loaded onto their account along with tools to help them on their trip. Once they’re checked in, passengers can add checked bags, change seats and purchase upgrades.
Delta warns that customers who require assistance or have special requests such as travelling with a pet in the cabin or unaccompanied minors still need to check in with an agent.
